5 Ways to Make Your Closet More Sustainable, Just in Time For World Vegan day

If you’ve ever checked out the Freedom Moses 10 chill-mandments, you’ll know we’re all about bending the rules, embracing diversity and loving animals of all kinds. Which might explain why every single pair of our kicks is not only vegan but also cruelty-free. And with it being World Vegan day very soon, we wanted to share five ways that you can make your stylish wardrobe even more sustainable. And just remember, if it’s green, it’s good.

1.We Like It Recycled (Not Tossed)
Instead of dropping cash on items that go straight to the landfill, seek out brands that make products from recyclable materials. Like us! All of our super comfy slides are made from PCU, an eco-friendly version of plastic that’s injected with air for maximum comfort and minimum environmental impact. Because of all that, our slides—including the Marley—can easily be disassembled and recycled. Clothing and shoes that end up in landfills create greenhouse gases, which have been known to lead to climate change. But recycled materials can be used again (and sometimes, again and again), for less trash overall.

2.No Real Animals, Please!
Where possible, try to avoid anything that’s made from any sort of animal product. Beyond the cruelty involved in the production process, items made from an animal require lots of water, land and other precious resources. Animal agriculture is also responsible for pumping tons of greenhouse gases into the environment. You know what they say about cow’s farts leading to climate change? Yeah, all that stuff is true. All that to say, our earth would be better off if you opted to buy slides online that were both eco-chic and green. And FYI, even our Cobra and Leo styles are totes vegan, making them fiercely good for you and our planet.

3.Cruelty-Free is the Way to Be
To take all that vegan stuff one step further, consider buying only from brands that are marked as cruelty-free. What the heck does that mean? Well, it’s an easy way of saying that the production process causes no harm or death to animals. And for beauty products, it means no ingredients were tested on cute bunnies (okay, or any other creatures). You can trust that everything Freedom Moses creates (like the Lime slides above) is 100 percent cruelty-free, as we make sure to spread love and care with everything we do. We want to make you feel good in what you’re rocking—without harming adorable animals in the process.

The coolest goal to have with your everyday style? To simply create less waste. The fewer items you put in the trash, the trendier you are. And if your clothing items—specifically shoes—can easily be tossed in the washing machine or washed, you’re already one step ahead of everyone else. That’s because cleaning your items extends their life...and tricks everyone else into thinking they’re brand new. Buy our sandals online and after a few months of wear, wipe them clean with just a bit of soap and water (yeah, you can even limit the amount of H2o used) and they’ll look like you just took them out of the box. Not to mention, our kicks are waterproof—so you def don’t have to toss your sparkling Vela’s after accidentally stepping in a puddle of mud.

5.Give It a Second Chance!
Just because you’re tired of your summer slides doesn’t mean you need to throw ‘em away—why not just find them a new owner, instead? Seek out a friend, family member, coworker, manicurist, Instagram follower or barista with the same size feet as you and hand off the shoes. Not only are you creating less waste but you’re giving hours and days of happiness to someone who’s never experienced the joy of Freedom Moses slides. Not to mention, now you have room in your closet for a whole new pair. Might we suggest going for the new Lily Rose in Amazonia, a chic forest green?
